Sergei Varshavsky is a physician, entrepreneur, and collector who has lived in the United States since 1999. He studies the history of democracy and despotism and researches the life and work of Maurice Joly, whose book *Dialogues in Hell between Machiavelli and Montesquieu* he published in 2016 in an adaptation for Russian readers.
